Munich Aerospace Summer Summit "Green Aerospace“ with international science and industry representatives

Around 120 invited guests attended the Munich Aerospace Summer Summit "Green Aerospace" at the Ludwig Bölkow Campus between 26 and 28 June. Innovative approaches to develop alternative fuels and sustainable engineering concepts will continue to have a strong impact on the aeronautics and space industries. Bavaria's partner regions Georgia, Quebec, São Paulo, Western Cape, Shandong and Upper Austria were already represented at last's years retreat event. With the Munich Aerospace Summer Summit 2017 being the first event of its kind, in the coming years the event venue will rotate between the seven partner regions of the Regional Leaders' Summit network. The Summit opened with keynote presentations by Prof. Mirko Hornung (Bauhaus Luftfahrt) and Dr Frank Anton (Siemens), followed by a panel discussion on "The Potential of Public-Private Partnerships for Green Aerospace Technologies".

The following two days included industry talks, such as Airbus' Johannes Stuhlberger, as well as lectures on green aerospace research in the partner regions by Dr. Fassi Kafyeke (Bombardier, Montreal/Canada), Prof. Fernando Catalano (University of São Paulo, Brazil), Prof. Suresh Menon (Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta/USA), Dr Japie Engelbrecht (Stellenbosch University, South Africa) and Prof. Markus Rapp (German Aerospace Center/Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München) among others. During a tour of the Ludwig Bölkow Campus the international guests in particular had a chance to get the know the research site.

During a fireside chat, Prof. Udo Helmbrecht, Executive Director of the European Union Agency for Network and Information Security (ENISA) and member of the Scientific Advisory Board of Munich Aerospace, spoke on "Cyber Challenges and the Aviation Industry". The last day finished off with a workshop on the RLS project "Global Aerospace Campus" and a team event for the Munich Aerospace Scholarship Recipients. The individual days were hosted by Prof. Mirko Hornung, Prof. Michael Pfitzner (University of the German Armed Forces Munich) and Prof. Hartmut Graßl, former Director at the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology and current member of the Scientific Advisory Board of Munich Aerospace.
