ALGAE POWERED FLIGHT

Biokerosene from algae

The project Algae Powered Flight is intended to provide innovative solutions for industrial production of sustainable biomass fuels. The project utilises synergies with various technologies such as biohydrogen production and generation of CO2 absorbing building materials from waste matter.

Photosynthetic microalgae yield 10 to 100 times more biomass per cultivation area than terrestrial plants. In addition they actively recycle the greenhouse gas CO2 and their cultivation does not compete with food production – an additional advantage. Renewable aviation fuels could be produced locally in various parts of the world in the future. Researchers thus are also studying algae cultivation under different climatic conditions.
