Thilo Pinar (Managing Director, LBC), Andreas Schuster (Technical Manager, LBC) and Christian Weimer (Head of Materials, Airbus CRT) are happy to welcome Christian Herrles, Vittorio Vercillo and Norbert Karpen, directors of the newly founded SurfLabX GmbH, to the innovation cluster in Taufkirchen. Based on the many years of experience in the field of Surface Technology gained in the Central Research and Technology Department of Airbus, the three entrepreneurs want to set new standards in the development of aerodynamic efficient surface technologies.
“We are really looking forward to the cooperation possibilities with Airbus and all other technology start-ups on the LBC and are really excited about the developments over the next months!” says Christian Herrles, one of the young entrepreneurs.
"In addition to the aircraft configuration, efficient engines and optimised flight operations, aerodynamic surface technologies make a significant contribution to achieving aviation’s ambitious emission targets. The Ludwig Bölkow Campus creates an environment in which ideas become products. We warmly welcome SurfLabX as a new campus partner and wish them every success with the industrialisation of their products and services.", adds Thilo Pinar.

HUB UAM Summer School Munich Aerospace

Just one year after having been founded, the Department of Aerospace and Geodesy (LRG) of the Technical University of Munich (TUM) establishes radio contact with space. In cooperation with Airbus and the Ludwig Boelkow Campus, the department installed a system for receiving small satellites at the Taufkirchen/Ottobrunn site. With great success: The ground station, known as "LRG Ground Station", already receives data several times a day from the student satellites MOVE-II and MOVE-IIb, both developed at the Chair of Astronautics, as well as from numerous spacecraft from all over the world.

The youngest department of TUM shows how well the cooperation with the local industry can work at the location in Taufkirchen/Ottobrunn and creates important infrastructure for university space missions. Ulrich Walter, professor of Astronautics, is delighted about the new opportunities: "The aim of the new department is to provide our students with a practical education. At MOVE, they learn to apply their theoretical knowledge in order to build and operate real satellites in a team".

How can innovations in the mobility industry be unleashed and accelerated? The traffiX and logistiX innovation forum, which took place on the Ludwig Bölkow Campus on May 22, dealt with this question. The conference, jointly organized and held by Munich Network, Ludwig Bölkow Campus, and Airbus, united international actors from the traffic and logistic ecosystems, presented pioneering technology developments, new mobility services and business models and covered legal and regulatory topics. The moderated discussion rounds and expert panels were complemented by examples and prototypes from practice. For example Airbus’ flying taxi “CityAirbus” or the planned autonomous bus line on the campus of Technical University of Munich were presented. In the course of the event the start-up company “”PREWAVE” won the traffiX and logistiX Innovation Award worth 5.000 Euro.
